All we ask is that you read the book: do as much or as little of the rest of it as you want. No matter how much you do, the book is yours! There are four age categories: grades K-3, grades 3-5, grades 5-8, and grades 9-12. Every book comes with links to explore, a review form, a few questions, and some activities that tie into the book. We will have posts on www.splyouth.org for anyone who wants to discuss the books or comment on the questions or activities. Supplies are limited, so grab yours today! Grades K-3: The Littlest Cupid by Brandi Dougherty “Archie is the littlest cupid in his lovable family. He may be little, but Archie knows this is the year he’ll be able to finally help out on Valentine’s Day! But a cupid’s official duties are a little difficult to manage when you’re so little! Will Archie be able to find a way to spread love and friendship this Valentine’s, or is the littlest cupid still too little?” (TLC, 2020). Grades 3-5: Love Puppies: Best Friends Furever by JaNay Brown-Wood “When Rosie and the rest of the Love Puppies find out that Meiko is struggling to make friends at her new school, they are sure they can sniff out a solution! But it takes more than magic to break the ice. If they can be creative, these caring canines might just find a lonely girl her paw-fect match!” (BFF, 2023). |
Grades 5-8: Random Acts of Kittens by Yamile Saied Méndez “When Natalia Flores finds a lost cat with a litter of newborn kittens, she is desperate to keep one of them. Whether or not her mami says yes… the rest of the kittens will need homes – and Natalia has the purr-fect plan. With help from her friend Reuben, Natalia starts an anonymous online account to find each cat the right owner… And when her former best friend Meera applies for a kitten, Natalia doesn’t know what to do. Will her attempt to spread kindness help her heal their friendship, or simply tear her and Meera further apart?” (RAoK, 2019). Grades 9-12: I Love You So Mochi by Sara Kuhn “Kimi Nakamura [is] obsessed with transforming everyday ephemera into Kimi Originals: bold outfits that make her and her friends feel like the Ultimate versions of themselves. But her mother disapproves, and when they get into an explosive fight, Kimi’s entire future seems on the verge of falling apart. So when a surprise letter comes in the mail from Kimi’s estranged grandparents, inviting her to Kyoto for spring break, she seizes the opportunity… She loses herself in the city’s outdoor markets, art installations, and cherry blossom festival – and meets Akira, a cute aspiring med student who moonlights as a costumed mochi mascot. And what begins as a trip to escape… becomes a way for Kimi to learn more about the mother she left behind, and to figure out where her own heart lies,” (ILYSM, 2019).
