JOB DESCRIPTION – Library Assistant (Part-Time)
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director
Job Description
Library Assistants are responsible for assisting with the day to day running of a library. Their duties include (but are not limited to) greeting and assisting library visitors, helping them find materials, checking materials out and in on our automated system, signing up visitors for a library card, shelving books, and other duties as assigned. Mostly evenings, every Friday, and some Saturdays.
Knowledge Base, Skills, and Experience
- Computer skills: familiar with MS Office, Google Suite. Integrated library software knowledge is preferred.
- Ability to multitask.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist library patrons in locating items.
- Assist patrons with using computers and other electronic devices.
- Checking materials in and out, including books and equipment.
- Preparing new materials for patron use.
- Manage front desk, phone, and email enquiries.
- Fax and make copies for patrons.
- Process fees and accept payments.
- Patrol library and ensure rules are being followed.
- Handle interlibrary loan requests and new item requests.
- Issue new library cards to patrons.
- Accept voter registrations, Buckeye Card applications, and dog license applications.
- May assist with library programming.
