YOUTH SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Celebrate the underground this summer at the library! We’ll have SRP events for all ages, activities to do around town, take-home kits, and more! There are three age groups: preschoolers (ages 5 and under), youth (grades K-5), and teens (grades 5-12).

KICKOFF – Ice Cream Party: All ages are invited to the library on Monday, June 1 anytime between noon and 2:00 pm for an ice cream party! Pick up summer reading signup kits and book kits as well.

READING: Prizes are earned after completing a reading goal of 500 minutes. Reading logs are part of the signup kits at the library. Our SRP program can also be done online; links to each program go live on June 2! Logs are due by 2:00 pm on August 6.

ACTIVITY CHALLENGE: Preschoolers: Do all ten activities listed. Kids/teens: Do at least ten of the fourteen activities. Cards can be picked up at the library or downloaded on our website. Everyone who completes the challenge will get more prizes, plus an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing! 

PRIZES: 

  • Read 500 minutes: A free book, an ice cream coupon, a free All Mine Pizza! from Tano’s, an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing, and more!
  • Activity Challenge: A free book, certificates for Burger King, an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing, and more!
  • GRAND PRIZES: Everyone who either completes the activity challenge or finishes the reading will be entered in the Grand Prize Drawing. Gift cards, book sets, games & puzzles, and more!

FINALE: Four of a Kind EntertainmentThursday, August 6 at 2:00 pm. Join Four of a Kind Entertainment for a mini-carnival all over the library! Games, trivia, photo booth, and more! Grand Prize Drawing to follow.

  • Deep Down Underground with ECO Discovery!Wed. June 3 at 10:30 am. Learn more about worms with Maureen and live worms! 
  • Dinosaur Music & Dance! Thurs. June 11 at 2:30 pm. What kind of music did dinosaurs make? SHS band members will be there to help find out! Please register; walk-ins welcome if space allows. Preschoolers with adult welcome too! 
  • “If I Were a Dinosaur...”Thurs. June 18 at 1:30 pm. Discover what kind of dinosaur you would be and make 3D models!
  • Orienteering at Oak OpeningsWed. June 24 at 1:30 pm. Learn to find your way at Oak Openings! Spots are limited; please register by 6/22. Gr. 3-12.
  • Digging Up Dinosaurs Thurs. June 25 at 11:00 am and 1:30 pm. Excavate dinosaur bones with Reading Rainbow!
  • Survivor Games at Oak OpeningsWed. July 15 at 1:30 pm. Who will survive? Use your outdoor skills to find out! Please register by 7/13. Gr. 3-12.
  • Doodle-A-Bug with Merrill Rainey Thurs. July 16 at 11:00 am. Join author/artist Merrill Rainey for an interactive reading of On The Air With Dr. Doodlebug. Then learn how to create a nature journal, participate in a draw-along of Dr. Doodlebug, and fill in the first page of your journal! Please register; walk-ins welcome if space allows. Preschoolers with adult welcome too! 
  • Dino Train Paleontology Thurs. July 23 at 1:30 pm. Dino Train and Nature Cat help answer the question: what is a paleontologist? Preschoolers with adult welcome too! 
  • Fossils, Gemstones, & Bouncy Balls? Thurs. July 30 at 1:30 pm. See and touch real gems and fossils and make your own bouncy balls!

TEENS (grades 5-12)

  • 100 Books Before Graduation KickoffWed. June 3 & Mon. July 27 at 3:30 pm. Read 100 books by the end of senior year and get prizes, including $100 to B&N! Come find out more. Popcorn/movie included! Gr. 6-12.
  • Anime Club Wed. June 10, Tues. June 23 and July 7, Thurs. July 23, and Wed. August 5 at 3:30 pm. Watch four episodes of anime. Japanese snacks included!
