APRIL STORYTIMES

Storytime for preschoolers will be held on Tuesdays at 10:30 am. Children 2 and under must be accompanied by a guardian. 

Storytime Potpourri April 9, 16, 23, and 30 at 10:30 am. From construction to goats to superheroes, we’re exploring a little bit of everything this month! 

Book Buddies – Join the YWCA for fun with a book and activities. Kids also receive a kit to take home! Check our calendar for this month’s date.

 

Read with Barli: Therapy Dog

Come read aloud to a certified therapy dog! Barli will be here Thursday, April 18 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm! Call, come in, or register online. Walk-ins welcome!

 

Interested in joining BOLT (Board of Library Teens)? The next meeting is at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, April 10. Pick up an application at the library and bring it to the meeting. Members help with book selection, party planning, and eat snacks! Grades 5-12.

 

April Contests for Youth

Earth Day Search: Look for fifteen pictures of recycling and Earth-related things hidden in the children’s area. Find all fifteen and pick your prize! 

National Library Week Treasure Hunt: The second week of April is National Library Week! To celebrate, children and teens can go on a library treasure hunt from April 9 to 13. Good luck!

 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Congratulations to Veronica, who reached 600 books! Congratulations as well to Griffin (900). This program is a nationwide challenge encouraging parents and caregivers to read aloud to their children. Families read in 100-book segments, with incentives and photographs for every 100 books finished. Visit http://1000booksbeforekindergarten.org/ or our website to learn more.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Swanton Library will host our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Monday at 2:00 pm on April 1! Participants meet at Pilliod Park next to the library. Everyone who helps find eggs will receive a bag of candy – and  a ticket for the grand prize drawing! The rain date will be Tuesday, April 2 at 2:00 pm. All youth are welcome; the limit is 15 eggs per child. Toddlers will get a two-minute head start. We hope to see you there! 

 

Youth Clubs

  • Anime Club: Join us from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm on Wednesday, April 24, to watch three episodes of anime chosen by the attendees. Snacks included! 
  • Cosplay Club: Thursdays, April 11 and 25 at 4:00 pm. Want to make your own costumes or help with others? 
  • Middle School Study Group: Students in middle school are invited to a student-led program to help with schoolwork  on Mondays from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Students receive help from the high school’s National Honor Society. No study group on April 1 or 8.
  • Poetry Club: Come to the library at 3:30 pm on Fridays, April 12 and 26, to discuss all types of poetry. 
  • Pride Club: Teens are invited to meet at 4:00 pm on Tuesdays, April 9 and 23. Join LGTBQ + advocate and community organizer Alyx Kendzierski on April 9 for a march poster painting workshop. On April 23, Kari Oberlin returns to lead a group discussion.
  • STEAM Club: Play with coding platform Fiero, build with Legos, create art, and more! Grades K-12 meet on Fridays at 4:15 pm. No meeting on April 19.

 

National Poetry Month Events

Poetry Contest: The teens of the Poetry Club are challenging themselves and anyone else interested in participating to a poetry contest! Submit your best poem at the front desk by April 30; come to the Poetry Club for help and inspiration on April 12 and 26.

Poem in Your Pocket Day: Look for “pockets” hanging in the library. Inside each of will be one of a variety of poems that you may choose to take and carry in your pocket. If you find one that you enjoy, make sure to share it with #pocketpoem on April 29.
