Board Report

At the Monday, July 21 Swanton Library Board of Trustees meeting:

  • Trustees discussed strategic planning. Surveys will be released to the public in the near future.
  • Trustees discussed adding more outdoor lighting. Tree care is being done to facilitate this.
  • At the next meeting, the trustees will have a swearing-in ceremony. The public is invited.
  • The next Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for 6:30 pm on Monday, August 18. The public is welcome to attend.

Adult Book Clubs

  • Gretchen’s Book Club: Join the local book club at 5:30 pm on Thursday, August 14 to discuss My Name Is Emilia del Valle by Isabel Allende. “In this historical novel, a young writer journeys to South America to uncover the truth about her father – and herself,” (MNIEdV, 2025). Copies are available at the front desk.
  • Sara’s Book Club: Saturdays, August 16 and 30 at 10:30 am. Bring any book you have read or are reading to discuss.
  • Book Discussion Club: Join the library book club on Monday, August 18 at 6:00 pm to discuss Listen to Me by Tess Gerritsen. “This harrowing thriller has [homicide detective] Jane Rizzoli and [medical examiner] Maura Isles investigating a brutal murder with dire implications, and this time, with Jane’s intrepid mother, Angela, looking into a mystery of her own,” (LtM, 2022). Copies are available at the front desk.

Ongoing Opportunities

  • Chair Yoga – Mondays at 4:30 pm. Physical therapist Dawn Seigneur will lead a class in chair yoga. Classes are $5.00 per person. 
  • Mahjong Mania – Tuesdays at 2:00 pm. A few ladies from the Senior Center will be here to play the game. Feel free to come, observe, and maybe even play! On August 5, come at 1:00 pm for a class for beginners to the game!
  • Dungeons & Dragons Club – Tuesdays, August 5, 19, and 26 at 4:30 pm. Please bring a fifth edition third-level character sheet if possible; pre-generated characters will also be available. New players, please register online. 
  • D&D Workshop – Tuesday, August 12 at 4:30 pm. Work on character creation, miniature painting, and more.
  • Fiber Arts Fiends – Wednesdays, August 6 and 20 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Fiber artists of all levels are invited to join.
  • Writers’ Group – Thursdays, August 14 and 28 at 6:00 pm. Join freelance author Nathan Jacobs and other writers to discuss your work. All skill levels welcome! 
  • Seam Rippers Sewing Club – Wednesday, August 20 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Bring your sewing project. Packed lunches welcome! 
  • ChessNuts – Wednesdays at 5:00 pm. Adults of all skill levels welcome to play chess. 
  • Swanton Historical Society – Fridays at 10:00 am. Anyone interested in volunteering or joining is welcome!

 

Color Me Calm 

Adults, please come and color your stress away while listening to music and enjoying coffee or tea. Join us at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, August 12. All supplies provided.
