Board Report

At the Monday, November 18 Swanton Public Library Board of Trustees meeting, trustees:

  • Chose a new member of the Board; formal appointment will be by the Swanton School Board.
  • Updated the community board policy; commercial ads can now be placed on the bulletin board in the foyer for up to 30 days at a time.
  • The next regular Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Monday, December 16. The public is welcome to attend.

Holiday Recipe from SPL

Pumpkin Muffins

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¾ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg 
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 and 1/8 cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup light or dark brown sugar
  • ¾ cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 15 oz pumpkin puree (canned or fresh)
  • 3/8 cup milk

Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a muffin pan or line with muffin liners. In a large bowl whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, and brown sugar until combined. Add oil and whisk until combined. Add pumpkin and milk and whisk until combined. Pour the pumpkin mixture into the flour mixture and mix gently just until combined. Divide batter evenly into muffin pan. Bake for 16-22 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center of the muffin comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Ongoing Opportunities

  • Chair Yoga Mondays at 4:30 pm. Physical therapist Dawn Seigneur will be here to lead a class in chair yoga. Classes are $5.00 per person. Registration is not required. 
  • Dungeons & Dragons Club Tuesdays, December 3, 10, and 17 at 5:00 pm. Please bring a 5th edition third-level character sheet if possible; pre-generated characters will also be available. New players, please register online
  • Fiber Arts Fiends Wednesday, December 11 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Fiber artists of all levels invited to join.
  • Writers’ Group Thursdays, December 5 and 19 at 6:00 pm. Join freelance author Nathan Jacobs and other writers to discuss your work. All skill levels welcome! 
  • Seam Rippers – Next month on Wednesday, January 15 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Bring a sewing project. Packed lunches welcome! 
  • ChessNuts Wednesdays at 5:00 pm. Adults of all skill levels welcome. 
  • Swanton Historical Society Fridays at 10:00 am. Anyone interested in volunteering or joining is welcome!
