COLOR OUR WORLD
SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Celebrate the colors of the world this summer at the library! We’ll have SRP events for all ages, activities to do around town, take-home kits, and more! There are three age groups: preschoolers (ages 5 and under), youth (grades K-5), and teens (grades 5-12).

KICKOFF – Ice Cream Party: All ages are invited to the library on Monday, June 2 anytime between noon and 2:00 pm for an ice cream party! Pick up summer reading signup kits and book kits as well.

READING: Prizes are earned after completing a reading goal of 500 minutes. Reading logs are part of the signup kits at the library. Our SRP program can also be done online; links to each program go live on June 2! Logs are due by 2:00 pm on July 31.

BINGO: Preschoolers: Do all ten activities listed. Kids/teens: Do at least fifteen of the twenty activities. Cards can be picked up at the library or downloaded on our website. Everyone who completes the challenge will get more prizes, plus an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing! 

PRIZES: 

  • Read 500 minutes: A free book, a free Honey Bear cone, a free All Mine Pizza! from Tano’s, prizes from one of the treasure chests, an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing, and more!
  • Bingo: A free book, certificates for Burger King, an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing, a button, and more!
  • GRAND PRIZES: Everyone who either completes a bingo or finishes the reading will be entered in the Grand Prize Drawing. Gift cards, book sets, games & puzzles, a zoo membership, and more!

FINALE: Indiana Wild – Thursday, July 31 at 2:00 pm. Join Indiana Wild to celebrate human-animal connections and meet many LIVE animals! Grand Prize Drawing to follow.

 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten: A nationwide challenge encouraging caregivers to read aloud to their children. Children receive prizes and incentives after every 100 books read.   • Tuesday Tales Tuesdays at 10:30 am

KIDS (grades K-5)

  • Lego® ClubTuesdays at 2:00 pm. Come build all kinds of Lego® creations!
  • Fun With Fishing at Oak Openings Thursday, June 5 at 10:45 am. Meet outside the Buehner Center (5402 Wilkins Rd, Whitehouse) for fun with fishing games and casting practice. Preschoolers welcome as well! Please register by 6/4; space is limited.
  • Aquatic ColorsMonday, June 9 at 3:00 pm. Join the Cleveland Aquarium on a virtual tour through the colorful seas.
  • Recycle Art Monday, June 30 at 2:00 pm. Create works of art using recycled materials.
  • Toledo Art MuseumFridays, July 11 and 25 at 1:00 pm. The Museum’s team brings hands-on art experiences directly to you! 
  • Colors in Nature with ECO Discovery! Friday, July 11 at 4:15 pm. Join Maureen and her animal companions and explore color! Part of STEAM Club.
  • Geocaching at Oak OpeningsWednesday, July 16 at 2:00 pm. Learn how to use GPS to find and create geocaches on a hunt for fascinating natural features. Meet outside the Buehner Center (5402 Wilkins Rd, Whitehouse). Please register by 7/14; space is limited.
  • Colors of WaterFriday, July 18 at 1:00 pm. Join the Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District for a story and a hands-on activity all about water.

TEENS (grades 5-12)

  • Club ClubWednesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 pm. Eat food, make art, and more! 
  • Teen Science Café – A free program where teens and STEM experts collaborate on presentations and hands-on activities. Some Club Club days will feature a Teen Science Café; check the calendar!
  • Cosplay ClubMondays, June 2, 16, 30 & July 14 & 28 at 3:30 pm. Meet the cosplay club at Sew Beyond Blessed (101 Church Street) to work on your cosplays and with local cosplayer/seamstress @elysiandawn.cos. 
  • Anime ClubWednesdays, June 11 & July 16 at 3:30 pm. Join us to watch four episodes of anime. 
  • Prism Wednesdays, June 18 & July 9 at 3:30 pm. Need a place to express yourself? Come ready to play games and discuss favorite rainbow reads. Free books!
