SEPTEMBER STORYTIMES 

Storytime classes will be held on Tuesdays at 10:30 am. All preschoolers are invited to attend; children two and under must be accompanied by a guardian. 

Explore Colors Tuesdays, September 12 and 19 at 10:30 am. Explore all the colors of the world around us this month. Don’t forget to wear your favorite colors to these two storytimes!

What About Weather? Tuesdays, September 26 and October 3 at 10:30 am. It’s fall now, and winter is coming soon! Learn more about all the different kinds of weather at storytime.

 

Read with Barli: Therapy Dog

Sign up to read aloud to a therapy dog! Newly certified therapy dog Barli will be back on Saturday, September 16 from 10:00 am to noon. Six 20-minute slots are available. Call, come in, or register online. Walk-ins are also welcome.

 

YWCA Book Buddies

Book Buddies for preschool and elementary school kids returns! Join the YWCA at 4:15 pm on Thursday, September 21 for fun with a book, crafts, and activities. Kids also receive a kit to take home!

 

September Contests for Youth

Find Your Fortune (Cookie) Contest for Kids: In honor of Fortune Cookie Day kids can look for 15 pictures of fortune cookies hidden in the children’s area. Find them all and pick a prize! 

“Read a Book” Contest for Teens: In honor of Read a Book Day, fill out a slip with the name of your favorite book and turn it in at the front desk for a prize. Love lots of books? You can enter one book a week for a total of  four entries. Good luck!

 

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Congratulations to Everett and Veronica, who both reached 200 books this month, and to Griffin and Lilian, who reached 700! This program is a nationwide challenge encouraging parents and caregivers to read aloud to their children. Families read in 100-book segments, with incentives for every 100 books finished. Participation is free of charge. To learn more, visit our website or http://1000booksbeforekindergarten.org/.

Youth Clubs

  • Anime Club: Join us from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm on Wednesday, September 20, to watch three episodes of anime chosen by the attendees. Shows must be available on the anime streaming service Crunchyroll in order to be shown. Snacks, drinks, and Japanese treats provided! No registration required. Free!
  • Chess & Games Club: Join librarian and chess player Jason on Mondays, September 11 and 25 at 4:15 pm, to learn more about the game of chess, or any board or card game available in the library. All ages.
  • Coding & Video Games Club: Learn coding, play with robots, program Switch games, and more! Kids in grades K-12 are invited to join the club on Fridays on September 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 between 4:30 pm and 5:15 pm. Call or visit our website to register. 
  • Cosplay Club: Interested in learning more about cosplay? Want to make your own costumes or help with others? Join the club! Cosplay Club meets at the library at 4:00 pm on Tuesdays, September 12 and 26.

 

Interested in joining BOLT (Board of Library Teens)? The first meeting of the school year will be at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, September 6. Pick up an application at the library anytime and either turn it in at the front desk or bring it to the meeting. Members help with party planning and book selection, and eat snacks! Open to grades 5-12.

 

Did You Know?

The following services are available at the library:

  • Interlibrary Loan – Want something the library doesn’t have? If possible we can borrow it from another library in Ohio and have it sent here for you to pick up. Just let us know!
  • Voter Registration – Fill out the form at the library and we will mail it in for you.
  • Absentee Ballot Applications These are available for anyone who needs an absentee ballot.
  • Golden Buckeye Cards – Fill out the form at the library and we fax it in for you. Bring ID.
