Black Swamp Winds Family Concert

Submitted by Leanna Chappell on

It’s all about family—the woodwind family

Families of all ages are invited to a free performance by Black Swamp Winds, a woodwind quintet ensemble that aims to introduce families and children to chamber music through a diverse collection of classical, contemporary, jazz, and popular movie music designed to engage the young listener. The performance will also include instrument demonstrations and a show- and-tell. Join members Teresa Disbrow (clarinet), James Gosman (oboe), Kimberly Kucharski (flute), Lynn Zuercher (bassoon) and David W. Zoll (French horn) at the library on Saturday, January 20 at 10:30 am for a musically good time!

Teresa Disbrow is a retired Band Director for Toledo Public Schools and St. Joan of Arc. Currently she is a member of Bowling Green Area Community Band, teaches private lessons and coaches various clarinet sectionals throughout NW Ohio. Teresa is married to David Disbrow and they enjoy spending time at their lake home and preparing for the upcoming wedding of their son, Joe.

James Gosman has played oboe/english horn in numerous ensembles in and around northwest Ohio continuously for the past three decades. He is one of the founding members of the woodwind quintet, Black Swamp Winds. Currently, James is also engaged as an emeritus orthopedic surgeon and an adjunct assistant professor in the Ohio State University Department of Anthropology.

Kimberly Kucharski has a flute performance/music education degree from California. To our good fortune, Kimberly has relocated to NWO, and has become involved in band, orchestral, and chamber ensembles throughout the region. She and her husband John are welcome additions to our musical scene.

David W. Zoll began his music studies under the guidance of his musician father. He graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory before turning to the law. These days he enjoys playing the horn, sailing, beekeeping, and, with his wife Myra, spending time with their 5 grandchildren and traveling.

Lynn Zuercher is a retired nurse (R.N.). Having studied bassoon prior to embarking on a nursing career, she has performed in several orchestras (and bands) throughout the greater Toledo area. Lynn now collaborates with her husband Ken in designing and constructing boutique guitar amps for their company, Zuercher Amplification.
