Kids: Sign up to read for 500 minutes during June and July (toddlers can sign up to do an activity sheet instead) and get a free book, free pizza, and more! Any age up through fifth grade can participate. Kids can also join us every week starting Monday, June 6, with the all-ages ice cream party! Preschoolers will attend at 10:30 am on Tuesdays; grades 3-5 on Wednesdays; and grades K-2 on Thursdays. Look for visits from the zoo (with real animals!), games, and more!

SIGNUP BEGINS JUNE 6, 2016!

The Goal: Sign up to read for 500 minutes during June and July. Any age up through fifth grade can participate. Winners receive prizes and will be entered in the Grand Prize Drawing.

The Kick-off: Come kick off the summer at the “Get Ready, Get Set, Sundaes!” party on Monday, June 6 at 10:30 am. We’ll have a make-your-own-ice-cream-sundae bar, stories, games, and more!

The library will host a series of free acrylic painting classes for adults, sponsored by the Swanton Chamber of Commerce through a grant from the Ohio Arts Council. These beginning-level classes, one for adults and one for children and teens, are taught by award-winning artist Nora Sallows. Both classes are limited to 20 participants.

To celebrate Children’s Book Week this year, any child (grades 5 and under) who visits the library between May 2 and 7 can choose a FREE book!

Preschoolers and their families are invited to join Laurie Gombash (PT, Med) for a program combining movement and literacy into FUN learning activities! Visit www.ABCsof Movement.com to learn more about the program. Attending families will receive a FREE set of activity cards. This free program is sponsored by FOSPL. Registration required; 25 family spots available. Call the library or stop by to register.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays bring your child to the library to share books, crafts, and activities! Session five picks up on April 26 and continues through May 25. Learn all about gardening and growing things with the theme IN THE GARDEN. Classes are Tuesday mornings at 10:30 am and Wednesday afternoons at 4:00 pm. All preschoolers are invited to the Wednesday afternoon classes. Children two and under must be accompanied by a guardian. Learn more.

Swanton Library will be closed on Friday, April 15 for the Ohio Library Council (OLC) Northwest Chapter Conference. The Conference is held at the Radisson Hotel at the University of Toledo and is a day filled with programs developed by OLC’s divisions, committees, and individual members. The areas of focus are on “always-needed” training topics and use peer-to-peer instruction. The library’s Director, Janelle Thomas, served on the Chapter Conference Board this year, along with other local and state professionals.

Fulton County Health Center will hold a Babysitting Clinic from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 30, at Swanton Library. Participants must be at least 11-years-old to attend. Learn to handle emergencies such as choking, burns, and more, to become a more effective and competent babysitter. Those who complete the course will be certified in babysitting through Fulton County Health Center (does not include CPR).

February 26 & 27: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and February 28: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Swanton Library Children’s Room. All types of reading! Movies! Music! Make a donation for your selections. Proceeds benefit library programs.

Congratulations to Brie and Levi, who have both read their first100 books! Congratulations as well to Bekah, Eli, and Lizzie, who reached 200; to Asa, Autumn, Gabriel, Isla, and Vivian, who reached 300; to Dylan, Lincoln, and Lucy, who reached 400; and to Slade, who has read an amazing 800 books!
